RESULT: POOLE 53 LAKESIDE 39

7/04/15

Poole extended their unbeaten home form to 14 matches as they turned round a four point deficit to run-out convincing winners by 53-39 against the Lakeside Hammers.

Despite opening with a comprehensive 5-1 from the opening heat the Pirates found themselves suffering back-to-back 5-1's defeats at the visitors levelled then took the lead after heats 5 and 6.

The Pirates however recovered strongly and fired in four straight maximum heat scores of their own to establish a commanding lead.

Dakota North who had a slow start to his evening roused the Poole fans to their feet with a superbly timed pass on former world number 2 Andreas Jonsson in heat 10. North had been probing the Swede throughout the race, looking for an opportune moment to join Pirates' skipper Maciej Janowski, who was looking solid for the most part of the meeting,  at the front, and his timing was perfect as he rounded Jonsson off the final turn to bring about that fourth consecutive Pirates' 5-1, their fifth of the night.

Chris Holder, showing signs that his confidence is coming back and at times looking like the tried and tested performer that has a world title to his name, defied Lakeside's tactical hopes as he stormed round the first curve to take pole position in his third unbeaten ride of the meeting.

Lawson, who at the time of his tactical ride defeat was also unbeaten, avenged for having seen his maximum aspirations disappear, when the duo met again in heat 13. Making a fast get-away from the tapes he headed home the Poole top two of Holder and Janowski to hold the margin at 10 points, before Poole ensured the Hammers would leave pointless as North and Gomolski hit the Pirates' 6th maximum.

Skipper Janowski was left to run single-handed in heat 15 when North had fallen on the first turn and earned a somewhat controversial disqualification but he stretched away from Lawson and Jonsson with some ease and earn the Rider of the Night accolade.
