Kings Lynn Stars v Poole Pirates

20/05/19

The No.1 Carpet Cleaning Pirates found themselves traversing the comeback trail once again as they claimed maximum points from their penultimate Premiership Supporters' Cup group match at King's Lynn.

The comeback-kings turned a 10 point defict into an eight point victory over the final third of the meeting, dropping just one point in those final five heats.

The first half of the match rapidly turned into the Michael Palm-Toft show as the Dane appeared in no fewer than six of the first nine heats as he covered the rider replacement outings for the absent Lewis Kerr who was forced to miss the meeting due to the sudden admission to hospital of his young daughter.

Palm-Toft was thrown into action from the off, once Erik Riss ploughed through the tapes in heat one and whilst the Dane had to follow home Jack Holder from that appearance he went on to record three unbeaten rides before finishing on the wrong end of a 5-1, inflicted by Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek in heat seven. That was Poole's first heat advantage and they looked set for their second in heat 10 when Kurtz was leading Erik Riss with Grajczonek well clear of Robert Lambert. But around the third and fourth turn Riss lost control and fell spectacularly, sustaining an injury to his collarbone. In the re-run Lambert made up for his slow starting and took a tapes to flag win to share the heat and maintain the Stars' 10-point lead.

But then Poole began to up their game. Jack Holder clinched his first winning ride of the night and Worrall opened his account by backing up for a 5-1. Kurtz made up for his earlier defeat by Lambert quite convincingly whilst partner Nicolai Klindt gave the Saturday's GP semi-finalist plenty to concentrate on. Holder and Grajczonek squared the meeting in heat 13 before the Twitter-elected pairing of Klindt and Kurtz comprehensively saw off Lambert and Palm-Toft. The job was finished with Holder and Grajczonek again combining well for the 5-1 that completed the remarkable 18-point turnaround.
