PREVIEWING: JUBILEE FINAL - POOLE V LEICESTER

23/10/23

Two riders who played major parts in wrestling the two major trophies from Poole's grasp over the past couple of weeks will be back at Wimborne Road in a bid to deny the 'Wessex Marine' Pirates the honour of winning the Jubilee Trophy, which has been carried forward from last season.

Wimborne Road specialist and play-off supremo Chris Harris headlines the Leicester select and returns just two weeks after his fourteen point haul in the Grand Final second leg, which along with his paid maximum the first leg, masterminded Glasgow's deserved SGB Cab Direct Championship league title claim. 'Bomber', who began the SGB Sports Insure Premiership with Leicester,  will be joined by Scunthorpe's and Lions' regular Drew Kemp who  has posted double figure scores in Scunthorpe's last two Wimborne Road appearances, both of which ended as 45-all draws after the regular fifteen heats, and the latter being only last Saturday when the Scorpions landed the Knockout cup. Drew will again line-up with his Scunthorpe and Leicester team-mate Jake Allen
Joining those three will be Team GB rider Leon Flint along with  former Pirate Danyon Hume, Arran Butcher and the ever-smiling Jason Edwards in a side selected by Leicester boss Stewart Dickson.

The Pirates will be without the services of reserve Joe Thompson, due to the clash of dates with the British U19 Championship at Birmingham and 2023 Championship league winner Lee Complin will appear for Poole for the second time this season, having guested for the Pirates at Berwick at the beginning of August when he scored paid eight covering for the injured Adam Roynon, whilst Anders Rowe has not recovered sufficiently after withdrawing from the Pirates' home cup final leg on Saturday and so the Pirates will operate rider replacement. The meeting will also mark Steve Worrall's final Poole appearance, as he confirmed last Wednesday that he will be moving on in 2024.

Poole promoter Dan Ford is hoping that the Pirates can sign off the season with an entertaining  display and hopefully with the home side on the winner's rostrum at the end. Ford commented "so here we are for the final meeting of what in all honesty has been a fantastic one for Poole, although we are still very gutted to have lost out in two finals. It is always hard to finish as runners-up, even more so when it happens at home, and whilst we are feeling the hurt of not being league or cup champions anymore I think we have to reflect on what we have achieved throughout the season, a season which sadly went all wrong for us in October. We qualified for the finals of all three competitions, we were top of the regular league campaign and top of our BSN group the latter of which, of course, we went on to win. So if we can just finish it off on Wednesday by winning this long-awaited Jubilee Final, which of course has been carried over from last season, then it would be some small consolation."
